  • Kathryn Hunt, Chair, has been associated with Good Will-Hinckley for several years, first serving as a volunteer on our Ventures Committee and then joining the Board in 2007. She was appointed Vice Chair in 2009. Ms. Hunt is a Principal and Senior Consultant at Starboard Leadership Consulting LLC in Bangor, ME, which is part of the law firm of Rudman & Winchell. She transitioned to this position in 2008 after 13 years with the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center at the University of Maine. Her work with at-risk students began in the mid 1980s when she helped found a school for children in Covington, GA with Project Adventure, Inc., which is recognized nationally for its work in helping young people succeed in school and life. Ms. Hunt has more than 20 years of experience working with groups, nonprofit organizations and businesses on issues that include: leadership development and sustainability; teamwork and performance; governance and board recruitment; strategic planning; community development; and evaluation design. Ms. Hunt holds graduate degrees in both Resource Economics & Policy and Counselor Education from the University of Maine. Her undergraduate degree in Human Nutrition was earned at the University of New Hampshire. In addition to her volunteer work at Good Will-Hinckley, Ms. Hunt is a trustee of the Maine Humanities Council, teaches Kindergarten Sunday School at All Souls Congregational Church in Bangor and serves as Lead Facilitator of the Bangor Region Leadership Institute – a volunteer role she has fulfilled for more than a decade.

    Patricia Zlotin, Vice Chair, GWHA Membership Representative, Class '64,  has been associated with Good Will-Hinckley for many years.  She graduated from Good Will-Hinckley in 1964, and first began serving as a member of the Board of Directors in 1976. She has held several offices on the Board including past Treasurer and past Chair. Ms. Zlotin currently serves as the Treasurer of the Good Will Hinckley National Alumni Association and is a member of the Good Will Home Association. She completed her under-graduate studies at Colby College in 1968 with a double major in Psychology and Education and a minor in Math. In 1973 she graduated with high honors from Boston University with an MBA in Finance.  Ms. Zlotin worked for over twenty-seven years with a large mutual fund company where she was a member of senior management and had multiple responsibilities and experiences within the investment arena as well as general management prior to retiring in 1998. Ms. Zlotin was a founding member and Chair of The Four Square Foundation and currently sits on the Board of Trustees for Eastern Bank and is the Coordinator, Sharon Advisory Board to Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation. She has volunteered for many years in various town government committees and community activities; as the Vice Chair of The Friends of the Sharon Dog Park; and as a Board member and Treasurer of Friends of the Sharon Public Library. Pat and her husband live in Sharon, MA where (when she is not volunteering) she enjoys outdoor activities, gardening, cooking, walking, biking and flying..(Return to top of page.)
     
  • Gail Wolfe,Secretary, HG '01, has been a friend of Good Will-Hinckley for over twenty-seven years. She is a 2001 Honorary Graduate; has served on the Board of Directors as the Secretary for five years; an active member of the National Alumni Association for twenty-five years, six as the Secretary;  served five years as Secretary of the Good Will Home Association and many years on the Boston Alumni Association. Ms. Wolfe earned her undergraduate degree from the University of New Hampshire in Occupational Therapy.  She completed her MBA in Health Care Administration from W. New England College. Ms. Wolfe worked in both direct care and management positions specializing in sub-acute rehabilitative services and is currently a Long Term Care Planning Specialist/Long Term Care Insurance Professional. Ms. Wolfe resides in Woburn, MA where she is a member and Secretary at the Temple Shalom Emeth in Burlington, MA; AARP Money Management Volunteer for Elders; the Queen of a very active Chapter of the Red Hat Society; an international social group for women ages 50 and older.

  • Robert Atwood, Class '55, spent six years at Good Will-Hinckley as a student. After he graduated from Averill he joined the Air Force where he served four years for our Country. Mr. Atwood attended Northeastern University and earned a BS in Industrial Technology which he quickly put to use in the Medical Instrument Manufacturing industry for over forty-five years. Mr. Atwood has served on the Board of Directors at Good Will-Hinckley for over fifteen years. He is a current member of the Good Will Home Association and serves in the Boston Alumni Association where he has held various officer positions. Mr. Atwood currently resides in Woburn, MA and visits the Good Will-Hinckley campus regularly.

  • Eric S. Buch has served as a community representative on Good Will-Hinckley’s Strategic Action Committee beginning in 2009 and joined the Board in April 2010. Most recently, Mr. Buch served as the Director of Planning and Development with Waldo Community Action Partners in Belfast, ME. Immediately prior, he was a consultant to nonprofit organizations and worked with the Maine Philanthropy Center, coordinating a statewide energy forum for funders and authoring a report entitled “Philanthropic Investments in Energy and Food Security” (2009). For 28 years he held senior manager and executive positions with United Ways in Ontario, Massachusetts and Maine. While president of the United Way of Eastern Maine (2005-08), Mr. Buch served as convenor of the Eastern Maine Funders network and coordinated the group’s Energy Initiative that raised over $550,000 in charitable support for emergency fuel assistance, winterization and heating system improvements for low-income families and seniors. A native of Montreal, Mr. Buch earned his BA from the University of Western Ontario and his Masters of Social Work (Community Organizing & Social Planning) from Boston College. He was a founding board member of the Maine Association of Nonprofits (MANP) and the Maine Grants Center (now Maine Philanthropy Center), and currently serves on MANP’s Advisory Council.

  • Doug Goodwin, Class '53, lived at Good Will-Hinckley for six years in the Golden Rule cottage with his GWH ‘brothers’ and graduated from Averill in 1953. He went on to college at Northeastern and earned his bachelor’s in Civil Engineering. Mr. Goodwin’s engineering skills were used in construction, highway projects, air fields, ship piers, sewer systems and more during his career. He used the mentoring skills that he learned at GWH to guide many young engineers during his professional life. Since 1983 he has served on the Board of Directors and been an active member of the Buildings and Grounds Committee; as well as volunteering for many other projects on campus. Doug has retired and currently resides in Vinalhaven, ME.

  • Donald H. Marden, HG '06, has been a volunteer and board member with Good Will-Hinckley for almost twenty years. Mr. Marden is an active/retired Superior Court Justice in Maine. He graduated from Waterville High School and went on to receive his undergraduate degree from Cornell University. After graduation, Mr. Marden served in the United States Army and then continued his service in the Army Reserve and Maine Army National Guard for over thirty-five years. He graduated from Boston University School of Law and began serving the State of Maine Superior Court in 1994 after thirty years as a Partner at Marden, Dubord, Bernier and Stevens Law Firm in Waterville, ME.

  • Wayne Walker has been associated with Good Will-Hinckley for several years, first serving as a volunteer on our Programs and Services Committee and then joining the Board in 2008.  Mr. Walker was the Director of Children’s and Crisis Services for Community Health and Counseling Services based in Bangor, ME. He was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware and went on to earn his Bachelors degree at the University of Delaware. He then attended Boston College where he received his Masters in Social Work. He has been a past member of the State Mental Health Advisory Committee, Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee, DHHS Levels of Foster Care Committee, various ad hoc State committees and has served on various local boards and board committees. Mr. Walker brings more than forty years of professional experience working with children and families to the organization.

  • Ken Walsh, a native of Brooklyn, one of seven children of an Irish and Italian Catholic family, has spent his entire career working to assist youth and families mainly through the Boys and Girls Club and YMCA. Ken received his BSE at the State University of New York at Cortland majoring in Education, Sports Management and Exercise Physiology.  At age 23 Ken started his career at the Boys and Girls Clubs of New Rochelle as their Assistant Executive Director. In 1992, at age 30 he was appointed to the Waterville Area Boys and Girls Club as their Executive Director.  In 1997 Ken, along with many community leaders, lead the first merger in the country of the Boys and Girls Club and YMCA creating the Alfond Youth Center. Ken is now going on his 25th year working for the BGC and YMCA as the Chief Executive Officer. He, his staff and Board have raised over 25 million dollars in Capital and Endowment support for the youth programs in Waterville since 1995.  He played semi-pro baseball for ten years, competed in numerous marathons and triathlons including 100 and 50 mile Ultra marathon runs. Ken is the founder Hensen-ryu (Club Naha) and holds a 6th degree Black Belt. He was the charter President of the Sunrise Rotary Club in 2003. Ken received the Dewitt Clinton Masonic Award for Community Service, Bob Cousy Humanitarian Award, Inducted into the Maine Black Belt Hall of Fame and the Maine Sports Legends. He lives in Vassalboro with his wife Suzanne (former Rotary President), his step children Megan, Mitch and his three year old son, Sean.

  • Lee Marshall is employed by Sappi Fine Papers at the Somerset Plant, nearby Good Will Hinckley. Since 2002, Lee has held the position of Technical Services Manager with responsibilities for Product Quality, Product Development, Environmental Services, Process and Product Testing Facilities and Energy and Material Efficiency.  Outside of work, Lee was active in sports activities in Fairfield as his two girls grew up. He co-led the effort to raise funds for the Lawrence High School soccer field lights and acted as contractor for the installation of the lighting system. Finally and not least, he has been married for over 30 years to the same wonderful woman, his high school sweetheart Lynne.

  • Michael C. Hinckley-Gordon is the former Director of Special Projects for Good Hill-Hinckley. He was instrumental in the successful completion of projects spanning the organization. Michael directed Good Will-Hinckley’s Independent Living Programs for fifteen and a half years and managed Good Will-Hinckley’s Community Based Group Homes Program. Michael continues to be active in addressing homelessness in Maine, particularly the needs of homeless youth.Michael lives in Benton, Maine with his wife Lorene and daughter Michaela. Michael coaches girl’s basketball, soccer and track & field at Lawrence High School. Michael is employed at Catholic Charities Maine and is a graduate of the University of Maine at Farmington.

  • Jim Morse  Jim has served as Superintendent of Portland Public Schools since 2009. Prior to that he served as Superintendent of the Messalonskee School District in Oakland for 12 years. Dr. Morse also served superintendent of the Limestone Public Schools. He helped found the Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM) in Limestone, at the time the state’s only public charter magnet school, and served as the school’s first superintendent. During his 34-year career, he has taught art in grades kindergarten through 12 and served as principal at the elementary, middle and high school levels in several Maine schools. His hobbies include drawing and riding a motorcycle.

  • Jay Nutting works as a Governmental Affairs Consultant for Verrill Dana. As a Legislative Assistant on Capitol Hill he focused on agricultural, environmental, and taxation issues, including the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001. Jay also worked actively on the 2001 Farm Bill, during the passage of which he collaborated successfully with other legislative offices to ensure the inclusion of provisions to help Maine seniors. During the last five Legislative Sessions, he has been actively involved in various issues, including telecommunication and electric utility regulation, water utility restructuring, product recycling, transportation infrastructure and general business regulatory issues. Previously, Jay worked on behalf of Yankee Farm Credit in Vermont, and has helped organize numerous political campaigns in both Maine and Vermont. Jay is a former member of his town's planning board and serves on the board of the Pine Tree State 4-H Foundation. Jay was awarded the 2009 Eisenhower Fellowship for Agriculture which allowed him to travel to the European Union and India to study agricultural and energy related issues.  Jay resides in Vassalboro with his wife Amy and his children Cambelle and John.

  • Robert Tardy -  During his ten years of service as a legislator in the Maine House of Representatives, Bob chaired the Standing Committee on Agriculture and served on the Taxation Committee, the Committee on Utilities, and the Committee on Banking and Insurance. From 2003-2009 he served as chairman of the Maine Harness Racing Promotion Board, and currently chairs the Maine Agricultural Water Management Board.  Prior to his service in the Augusta, Bob served as first selectman for over a decade in the small rural Maine town where he raised his family, while simultaneously teaching in public schools and running the family John Deere dealership. Raised in Newport, Maine and a graduate of the University of Maine, his is the sort of “Made in Maine” career expertise that makes him an invaluable resource to a variety of industries. Since launching Somerset Associates, Bob has helped a veritable who’s who of local and national organizations navigate the Pine Tree State’s unique political landscape.

  • Douglas S. Carr brings his nearly forty years of experience and familiarity with Maine's political and business worlds to bear on his practice law and government relations. He is Of Counsel to Perkins Thompson.  He currently serves as a Board Member of the Center for Grieving Children (GCG) (2010); Dirigo Health Program (2011) and Maine Center for Enterprise Development (MCED) (2007). He is the former Board President and Clerk for the Maine Cancer Foundation (2004-2010) and the Maine Economic Research Institute (MERI) (2004-2010) and MCAHV (2005-2010).  He is married to Deidre O. Carr, a teacher at Freeport High School. Doug and Deidre continue to live in Yarmouth and are enjoying "empty nester" status as their two married daughters have both completed their formal education. Doug enjoys reading, art, golf, downhill skiing, travel, food, and antiquing.

  • Joel Russ currently works as the Director of Development for LearningWorks.  Previously, Joel served as the Director of the Bridge to Independence Project at Good Will-Hinckley.  Joel has extensive senior level non-profit management experience at organizations including: Four Square Foundation, Legacy Philanthropy Management, Maine Science and Technology Foundation, Greater Portland Chamber of Commerce and the Maine State Chamber of Commerce.  Joel is a licensed attorney.  Married to Carolyn, Joel resides in Walpole, Maine and has two adult sons and three grandchildren.

  • Rich Abramson is a Superintendent of Schools for Regional School Unit No. 38 in Readfield, Maine.  Rich has just completed his 17th year as Superintendent- 10 in RSU No. 38.  He holds a Master’s Degree and Advanced Coursework in Education and Special Education Administration from the University of Maine.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Colby College.  Rich also is a Senior Director through the YMCA of the USA having served as Executive Director for the Kennebec Valley YMCA.  He is also a member of the YMCA’s Hall of Fame.  It was during Rich’s tenure at the YMCA that much of his passion for wellness and healthy living strategies were formed.  He also serves on numerous boards and commissions within the State of Maine.  He lives with his wife Paula of 39 years.  His hobbies include snowshoeing, golf, bicycling, Nordic walking and relaxing on a remote lake in Maine.
