A Good Will-Hinckley Educational Program
Located on several hundred picturesque acres of wilderness, organic farmland and river frontage on US Route 201 in central Maine, the Maine Academy of Natural Sciences (MeANS) focuses on agriculture, the environment, forestry, other career skills training, and independent living skills. Students come to MeANS from local schools and from across the state, with room and board options available. Students who have left school or are looking for a hands-on learning environment, and are highly motivated by the program’s focus are welcome.
Assistant to Lead Teacher -- an AmeriCorps Intern
The Lead Teaching Assistant will be working with students in a classroom setting, integrating hands on projects with academic standards. Responsibilities to include: assist with the development of Personal Learning Plans, deliver instruction and help develop and implement assessments for students. Candidate must be flexible, have a sense of humor, communicate well, and enjoy working with a team. Member coordinates a mentoring program focused on academic support for students. Live-In Residential Advisor -- an AmeriCorps Intern
The Live-in Residential Advisor (RA) is responsible for the supervision, health, and safety of overnight students who are enrolled in the MeANS program on-campus. Member will support the student and their learning from the MeANS program and also be responsible for providing a recreational, social, and life skills curriculum for students. Program staff are caring adults who are enthusiastic, energetic, and skilled in a variety of areas; able to connect with a wide range of students from many different environments, and committed to the personal and academic advancement of the students. RA's will be trained to implement restorative justice model and will interface with the academic program on a daily basis as well as provide students with transportation to and from required appointments. The RA will live in the student residences, must enjoy teenagers, be a skilled communicator, and must have a good sense of humor.
