In 1912, Mr. Charles D. Hubbard, of Guilford, Connecticut, was commissioned to make a picture which would symbolize the philosophy at the Good Will Farm. It was hoped that such a drawing could become a kind of trade-mark or seal. In the border, in letters of gold, are six words, taken with the symbols, make a complete expression of the "Good Will Idea"; in other words they describe a comprehensive plan for the benefit of the class of boys and girls for whom Good Will was founded. Today, the Roundel is considered the official seal of Good Will-Hinckley.
Home - our youth live in a safe, well-rounded, "total" community they can call "home," where they are surrounded by caring and supportive adults.
Education - the majority of our youth arrive with academic skills that are behind where they should be for their age. Through exemplary teaching methods recognized statewide and throughout the US for their success, our students quickly get their education back on track and up to Maine State Department of Education standards. Approximately 85% of our graduating seniors attend some form of post-secondary education after graduation from our Averill High School.
Religion - opportunities for spiritual connections are offered to all students. At weekly Chapel attendance, alumni students and other guest speakers deliver messages on moral issues such as forgiveness, patience, generosity, etc.
Recreation - youth enjoy organized team sports: basketball, baseball, softball, and soccer. Each year, a group of Good Will-Hinckley students travels to National Home Olympics and participates in friendly sports competition with youth from group homes throughout the US.
Discipline - with the MTS (Motivational Teaching System), our youth learn the rewards of good behavior and the consequences of poor decisions through positive reinforcement.
Industry - when youth are ready for the responsibilities of employment, opportunities exist in various areas both on and off-campus in preparation for independence and self-sufficiency in adulthood.
